AC repair · Denver

AC repair, before the heat wins.

Warm air, ice on the lines or a condenser that will not start? We find the real cause and fix it cleanly, with a written price first.

🛡️ Insured & EPA-certified🕑 24/7 emergency💬 Written price first💳 Financing available

Denver summers are short, bright and hot, and when the AC fails in a July heat wave every hour counts. Besties HVAC Solutions repairs central air conditioners and heat pumps across the metro with same-day service when the schedule allows, EPA-certified refrigerant handling, and the same respectful, spotless work our clients expect inside their homes.

We service all major brands, and we explain what failed, why, and what it will cost before we touch anything.

Common AC problems we fix

  • System runs but blows warm or barely cool air
  • Outdoor unit hums but the fan will not spin
  • Ice on the copper lines or the indoor coil
  • Water leaking from the furnace or air handler area
  • Breaker trips when the AC starts
  • Hail-flattened condenser fins and reduced cooling
  • Upstairs rooms far warmer than the main floor

Colorado conditions that break air conditioners

Hail. Front Range hailstorms can flatten condenser coil fins in minutes, cutting airflow and efficiency. Light damage can often be cleaned and straightened, while severe damage may mean a new coil or condenser. Hail damage is frequently part of a homeowners insurance claim, and we document what we find with photos and a written assessment you can share with your insurer.

Cottonwood fluff and dust. In late spring, cottonwood seeds mat over outdoor coils and starve the condenser of air. A proper coil cleaning restores capacity and protects the compressor.

High-altitude sun. UV and heat on west-facing walls push systems hard in the afternoon. A unit that is low on refrigerant or has a weak capacitor will fail on exactly those days.

Refrigerant: what changed and why it matters

Older systems that use R-22 can no longer be recharged with newly produced refrigerant, so a significant leak on an R-22 unit usually means replacement. Systems using R-410A remain serviceable, but since 2025 new residential equipment has been moving to lower-impact refrigerants such as R-454B and R-32, and R-410A prices have risen. That changes the repair math on an older leaking unit, and we will give you honest numbers for both paths. If replacement wins, see our AC installation page.

Quick checks before you call

A few AC problems have simple causes. Confirm the thermostat is set to cool and below room temperature, and that it has fresh batteries. Check both the breaker in your panel and the outdoor disconnect near the condenser. Look at the filter, because a clogged filter can freeze the indoor coil. Many systems also have a float switch in the condensate pan that shuts the AC off when the drain backs up, so standing water near the furnace is a clue. With the power off, you can gently clear leaves and cottonwood fluff from around the outdoor unit. If none of that helps, call us rather than resetting the system repeatedly.

Maintenance prevents most summer breakdowns

Most of the failures on our summer schedule were visible weeks earlier: a bulging capacitor, a coil matted with debris, a slow refrigerant leak. A spring tune-up catches them on your schedule instead of on the hottest Saturday of the year. Comfort Club members receive seasonal tune-ups, free diagnostics, repair discounts and front-of-line priority. See our maintenance plans for details.

Good to know

AC repair questions, answered.

How much does AC repair cost in Denver?+
Most AC repairs fall between about $250 and $2,000 depending on the part and refrigerant involved, with compressor and coil replacements higher. That is a typical range, and you receive an exact written price after diagnosis. The $149 diagnostic is waived when you approve the repair.
Why is my AC running but not cooling?+
The most common causes are a failed capacitor, a dirty or hail-damaged condenser coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a frozen indoor coil from poor airflow, or a clogged filter. Each has a different fix, which is why we test before we recommend.
Is hail damage to my AC covered by insurance?+
Hail damage to outdoor units is often covered under homeowners policies, subject to your deductible and policy terms. We document the damage with photos and a written assessment you can provide to your insurer. Your insurer makes the coverage decision.
Why is there ice on my AC lines?+
Ice usually means restricted airflow or low refrigerant. Turn the system off and set the fan to on to thaw it, check the filter, and call us. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor.
Should I repair or replace my old R-22 air conditioner?+
Small electrical repairs can make sense, but a refrigerant leak on an R-22 system usually tips the decision toward replacement because recharging is expensive and supply is limited.
Can you convert my swamp cooler to central air?+
Yes. We remove the evaporative cooler, seal the roof opening, and design ductwork and returns for refrigerated air. It is one of the most common upgrades in older Denver homes.
